 Who's to Blame?
Back to Full Blog

I got this email today. It is short amd succinct, but it drives home the message and gives you an opportunity to do something about it to regain a little power. As my girl Laura would say, "Pwer to the People!"

email:

Folks, if you're angry that a Congressional subcommittee rejected legislation for oil drilling, here are your contacts http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/cgi-bin/newcommittee.cgi?site=ctc&lang=&commcode=happrop_interior.

All Republicans said YES. All Democrats said NO.

Moral of the story: Democrats don't want domestic drilling. It is the party of communists and George Soros. They want to bring down the country. Republicans are not a whole lot better but they don't want the nation in the gutter like the lib Dems. Feel free to call or fax the Democrats on this subcommittee if you're fed up with high oil prices. And spread the word. We must at least get rid of the Democrats in Congress. Thanks.

Opinion,
We don't need more drilling, especially in the Alaskan preserve. The oil companies are not even using the leases they have now. They, with th help of manipulators on Wall Street are artificially upping the price of oil. There is no crisis that could not be cured by REGULATION, REGULATION, REGULATION. CAPITALISM MUST BE REGULATED. Stop speculation in energy and food and the world will benefit. Too many big piggies, mostly republicans are trying to control the price ofeverything. We need Obama and the Democrats to bust up the large megacorporations.

I'm assuming you're wanting the U.S. to drill in ANWR. Did you know the the amount of oil in ANWR is only enough to supply America for a few months...maybe 6 or 7 months? Is it really worth the risk to the pristine Alaskan environment for 6 or 7 months worth of oil?

I do agree, gas prices are ridiculous and something has to be done. I would suggest that tax breaks are revoked from the American oil companies to start off with. There is no logical reason why these companies need to be making 50 or 60 billion dollars in profits for just a three month time period. It's obscene!!

In addition, why are we not getting our war 'dividends' out of our invasion of Iraq? I heard yesterday on CNN that the oil fields in Iraq are now producing large quantities of oil. Why can't we get some oil from them at bargain prices? After all, we are the country who "liberated" them from Saddam Hussein, right? Wasn't that the REAL reason we invaded them?

Hell, a few months after the invasion started, a CNN correspondent interviewed an Iraqi family and asked a young girl(obviously only about 7, 8 or 9 years old) why she thought the U.S. had invaded. Her answer was one word..."oil". If a kid that age could figure it out, then the rest of us are not so stupid to actually believe that it was for defensive purposes only.

Besides that, oil is a limited resource. It won't last forever, no matter how much we wish it would. America(in general) needs to put much more money into alternative energy. This is something we should have been doing decades ago.

Now, Mr. Right Opnion, tell me where I am wrong?

You know, it was suggested 10 years ago that we start looking for alternatives. But, people said, THAT'S 10 YEARS AWAY...
