Anne Northup Tells it Like it is!

Please take a moment if you live in the Louisville, KY area, or know someone who does, to listen to the ad at the following URL. She tells it like it is here, and I would bet Yarmuth does change his mind on drilling right before the election! Here it is:

Could the Pot Get Any Blacker-by Michael A. Minton

And before you bleeding heart Liberals start calling me a “hater” or a “race-baiter,” or whatever the slang is this week, let me point out that I am referring to the old adage “talk about the pot calling the kettle black.” Not the color of anyone’s skin. Especially since both subjects of this article are at least partially black.

I am assuming that any of you with an interest in your country and who will be governing it for the next four-eight years saw at least some of the discussion between B. Hussein Obama and Pastor Rick Warren. And then that which took place between John McCain and Pastor Rick Warren. Both occurred at the Saddleback Church in California this past Saturday.

A lot of people are making a big deal at how ready Sen. McCain was to answer the questions tossed to him by the Good Pastor. I personally was not surprised. If you are a man of faith and true conviction, you have no need to stammer and stutter your way through answering a question which draws upon your faith, morals, or character. You may have some difficulty with public speaking, but we have proof that Obama has that down-cold.

So, let me turn the tables, if I may. I know a lot of you want to know, “Why did he answer those questions so fast? Did he know what they were going to be beforehand? I propose that the reason McCain was able to answer so quickly and so succinctly is that the answers are already within him. That they are standards of faith and conviction already written in McCain’s heart. That he need do nothing more than look into his soul for the answers he sought.

Sen. B. Hussein Obama, on the other hand, I feel lacks those deep-rooted convictions. Rather than look inside himself to see the answers, he has to look to a poll to see what the people would want him to say. It’s not an engraved feeling or conviction that he can just call upon, but rather, he must see what answer is going to score well with the pollsters. He missed. He missed badly.

One of the strangest answers coming from Barack that fateful night was also picked up on by Jim Meyers at Newsmax. I must give him credit, though, as he was able to beat me to the punch in getting it on paper.

When asked which Supreme Court Justices they would not have chosen, the first one out of Obama’s mouth was Clarence Thomas, saying, “I don't think that he … was a strong enough jurist or legal thinker at the time for that elevation.”

Um, hmm, excuse me? Did the man with two years U.S. Senate experience who wants to be president really just say that he didn’t think Clarence Thomas had enough experience at that time to sit on the Supreme Court???

As Newsmax points out, “So let's see. By the time he was nominated, Clarence Thomas had worked in the Missouri Attorney General's office, served as an Assistant Secretary of Education, run the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and sat for a year on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, the nation's second most prominent court.”

And I especially like the way they close the story out: “Justice Thomas's judicial credentials compare favorably to Mr. Obama's presidential résumé by any measure.”

Well said, and enough said, I do believe!

I Guess I’ll Give B. Hussein Obama a Break Today (Part I)-by: Michael A. Minton

Well, I guess everybody deserves a day off. Not really. When it comes to choosing our next president, there can never be enough scrutiny of the candidates. However, I don’t think one candidate should be chosen based strictly on the fact that his opponent is totally unqualified for the job-morally, spiritually, patriotically, practically, or any other way you can think of. So, in light of that, I will give Obama a break today and talk about the good points of Sen. John McCain.

Let me begin by saying that the most obvious attribute that McCain brings to the table is that he is NOT Barack Hussein Obama. There has never even been any question about whether or not he has, at some point in his life, been a muslim, or attended a madrassa. Nor has his wife, to the best of my knowledge, said that it took her roughly fifty years to FINALLY be proud to be American.

All that aside, though, there are plenty of overt positive qualities that Sen. McCain brings to the table. We all know, but it still deserves mentioning, that he fought for this country as a Navy fighter pilot, and that he spent five and one-half years as a POW.

As for his voting record, I checked him out at http://ontheissues.org, and found the following information out about the Senator from Arizona.

As a U.S. Senator, some of his votes on abortion include: supporting repeal of Roe vs. Wade in May, 2007; voted Yes to defining unborn child as eligible for SCHIP (State Child Health Insurance Program) in March, 2008; voted yes to banning HHS grants to organizations that perform abortions in October, 2007; voted yes to expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines in April, 2007; voted yes to banning partial birth abortions except for maternal life in March, 2003; voted yes to banning partial birth abortions in October, 1999; voted yes to banning human cloning in February 1998.

He was given a 0% rating by NARAL, which indicates he has a pro-life voting record. And while I don’t agree with his stance on stem cell research, I have to say that he is pretty pro-life, based on his voting record.

On the economy, I found the following statements. While they are just a portion of what is available to see, there is not enough room here to list every item.

Sen. McCain supported the Bear-Sterns bailout. He said he did so because, “every financial expert I know says that if it had failed, it would have rippled throughout the entire financial community and would have caused greater problems which eventually would have come down on the average citizen if our economy continues to decline the way that it's been doing.”

In terms of “recessions,” Se. McCain believes as I do. That is, a lot of what brings recession is psychological. It is like a self-fulfilling prophesy. If one believes we are headed toward recession, one will behave that way in their spending and investment behaviors, thus fulfilling the idea of recession. Sen. McCain said, “Part of the problem in any recession is psychological. I'm still optimistic that nothing is inevitable. I still rely on the innovation and the talent of the US.”

In terms of the “Bush Tax Cuts,” in June of this year, McCain proffered, “[B]ut we've got to make the tax cuts permanent. We need to get rid of the Alternative Minimum Tax. We need to give people a depreciation in one year for their business and investment. We need to encourage research and development and tax credits that are associated with it.”

I realize that he voted against the Bush tax cuts at first. However, I truly believe that the senator saw the error of his ways and has come around to understanding more about taxes, and exactly how they can influence the economy.

When asked why, with the economy the way it is, the people of the United States should put another Republican in the White House, Se. McCain responded, “I will, as president, veto every one of these big spending bills. I will impose some fiscal discipline. We will clean up our act and we will regain the confidence of the American people as being careful stewards of our tax dollars, and we will fix this problem with having to borrow money from China, then we will balance our budget, just like every governor in America has been required to do.”

Finally, on the economy, Sen. McCain realizes that the Republicans in control in recent history have forgotten what their predecessors had known. That government is not the solution to the problem, but rather it IS the problem. Said McCain, “We let spending lurch completely out of control. As president of the United States, I'd take an old veto pen that Ronald Reagan gave me, and I'd veto every single pork barrel bill that comes across my desk. And we've got to stop it and stop it now. I look forward to it.”

Well, those are a few of the positive attributes of John McCain that I wanted to share with you. I will bring you more positives as time permits. For now, you’re probably as tired of reading this article as I am of writing it. Until next time…
